Ice Skating in Sydney takes off at the 2010 Alpine Winter Festival
Ice skating in the heart of the Sydney CBD in the shadow of the peaks of St Mary’s Cathedral has proved to be a huge hit again for the 2010 Alpine Winter Festival.
The Winter Festival has a distinctive European feel enhanced this year with the addition of a ‘beer hall’ with its warming fire, long tables and Euro band. Adding in the schnitzels on offer and some of the best gluhwein (German spiced wine) we’ve had in Australia from the array of goodies on offer from the myriad of little marques, the crowds embraced it with gusto.
The opening night function in the ‘beer hall’ didn’t keep guests away from the ice rink for long as they scurried out to show off their skating prowess. Gotta say this is a terrific addition to chilly Sydney in the winter and we can’t wait for the ice rink to hit Bondi Beach on 16th July – who would ever have thought that Sydney’s most famous beach would be home to ice skating!
