Polo in the City 2010 Sydney details

Paspaley Polo in the City (Sydney) gets bigger every year.
Sydney’s Centennial Park was simmering at the seams as 3,000 Polo devotees and Sydney’s social set ‘chukkered’ in together for this once a year event.

Polo in the City just gets bigger every year with this years marquees mushrooming up and down each site of the field and all packed full of  those out to have a great day.  The huge VIP Marquee, which did a fabulous ‘sit down’ lunch was THE place to be.  A very fast moving auction was held here and they did a brilliant job raising lots of money for the SMILE Foundation and the Australian Cancer Research Fund.  The Mumm ‘fans’ were distributed here again this year and were put to very good use in the steamy weather.

The majority of fashions on the day were stunning with the girls (and some of the guys) out in force in stylish and appropriate outfits – well done.  The fillies were fabulous, while matrons mingled, guys gazed, divots got stomped and  human races contested with lots of Mumm and sea of water consumed (responsibly of course).

MiSociety has enjoyed  Polo in the City since it’s inception and can tell you now if you haven’t been yet you had better mark it in your diary for 2010 as if this year’s event is any indication tickets for next year will be even scarcer.  Polo in the City is the brainchild of Janek Gazecki who has just announced his engagement to Natalie Decorte – congrats Janek and Natalie on this and a first class event.  Polo in the City is now also in Melbourne, with Adelaide and Perth happening in December 2009.

Polo In the City through the eyes of Bill Ranken
Okay, so with only three aside on a small field it isn’t true polo but it still attracted 3000 bright young things wh on add occasions watched the ponies but mostly checked out each other to see what they were wearing while guzzling down the old champers that was flowing freely at each marquee.

Australia’s two best player, Glen Gilmore and Ruki Bailieu, who are seven goal players were absent as they are in Argentina.  However, there were a couple of good games.  A highlight was a gum boot race where a number of pretty young things race across the field wearing hidious red gumboots.
